So you’ve decided to bring home a new puppy. You’ve done the research, found the right puppy, have plans to pick it up, and NOW you’ve got to get everything ready for it to come home!
The list above will be a big help in making sure you don’t miss any items, but lets go ahead and walk thru some of it!
When starting to shop I know PetSmart and PetCo will be the top storefronts you’ll think to go to, but I’d recommend checking out Tractor Supply or Rural King first. You’d be amazed at how the products are very similar in quietly, but about half the price.
Or if you’re like me, you’re going to run to Amazon and just starting clicking away.. which is good, but you still need a plan!
Start with the simple stuff ->
– Food and Water Bowl
– Dog Food ( This one is important as you don’t want to just suddenly switch your new puppies food, you want to make sure to keep them on what they’re used to and slowly switch over to a different brand)
– Leash and Collar
– Harness ( Highly recommend making sure to get one as puppies LOVE to slip out of their collars and this is a way to make sure you can keep control until you’ve had time to do some training)
– Crate (I recommend getting a crate that will fit them when full grown and putting a divider in while they’re younger. Some dogs use the crate for a few months and never again, but some dogs end up wanting it for life as their “safe space” to go when they’re over being around people)
– Training Treats ( Make sure to get small treats as you don’t want to introduce too many new foods into their diet while young)
– Dog Bed ( Pick one durable so that they won’t just chew up or “De-fluff” it)
– Bell for the Door ( They make a few different types of these, ones that you plug in and stick by the door, or just bells you hang on the door. These are are super helpful for potty training)
– Snuggle Puppy (These are SO great for new puppies coming home. I don’t know anyone that regrets buying one of these!)
– Hair Brush ( Depending on what type of dog you are getting will depend on the brush. If a goldendoodle, the brush linked on our Amazon list will work great!)
– Chew Toys and Regular Toys
